Duende is a sculptural wall relief carved from hardwood and finished with details in chased brass. Its wide horizontal format reveals an inhabited landscape: two trees frame the scene, a sun made of metal rods presides over the composition, and a reclining female figure occupies the centre in a continuous, serene line.

The contrast between the wood’s warm, dark tones and the cooler reflections of the brass shapes the way the work is seen. The wood anchors the scene, while the metal brings in light, wind and the movement of leaves.

At the far right, beneath a tree canopy, two small duendes appear to converse beside a few red marks. This tiny detail, almost hidden, gives the work its name and suggests a gentle vision of nature inhabited by unseen beings.

Duende brings relief sculpture and drawing together in a work made for a wall. The shadows cast by its carved elements are part of the composition and change with the light throughout the day.
