Legacy
The Legacy of Vicente de Espona
Since his death in 1995, the people who knew Vicente de Espona best have cared for and shared his legacy with the same dedication he brought to shaping bronze and stone.

Ana María Muñoz Miró
Since Vicente de Espona’s death in 1995, his wife, Ana María Muñoz Miró, has carefully preserved his work and brought it to a wider audience. With unwavering dedication, she has made keeping the sculptor’s memory alive her life’s work, working quietly and resolutely to ensure that his art is not forgotten.
Thanks to her sustained efforts, we can still discover the depth of Espona’s work: sculptures, murals and poems that continue to resonate with those who encounter them. Over the years, Ana María has collected, catalogued and protected drawings, manuscripts and photographs, creating an archive of great cultural value that might otherwise have been lost.
The path has not been easy. Although many who know Espona’s work deeply admire it, institutional and political support has not always matched their enthusiasm. Even so, Ana María has sustained the project with courage and patience, building bridges where doors had closed.
Today, there is a growing desire for a permanent space to house his work and present him not only as a sculptor, but as a poet of volume and a dreamer of form. Ana María’s work shows how love can become a lasting cultural commitment.
“Every day, we continue to discover the artist, the creator, the man.”
Francisco Moyano
Francisco Moyano is among those who knew Vicente de Espona best. A historian, teacher and columnist, he was not only a close friend of the artist but also one of the few people with whom Espona had long conversations about his life and work. During those private talks in his Marbella studio, Vicente asked Francisco to write his memoirs.
That wish remained unfulfilled for decades until Moyano, moved by loyalty and admiration, published Cada día te descubro. Elogio del artista plástico Vicente de Espona (I Discover You Anew Each Day: A Tribute to the Visual Artist Vicente de Espona). Drawing on testimonies, letters, conversations and previously unpublished documents, the book offers a portrait of both the sculptor and the sensitive, passionate man behind the work.
This intimate account sheds light on lesser-known parts of Espona’s life, from his early years in Barcelona to his permanent move to Marbella. It also describes his difficult dealings with some municipal authorities and the resolve with which he faced adversity, while retaining his affection for the city he had made his home.
Through Francisco Moyano’s generous work, Vicente de Espona’s legacy has found another way to reach people: a book that both documents his life and brings readers closer to him.
