Espona portrays Judas through a human and tragic lens: a being caught in a vast spider’s web that symbolises fate, guilt and the impossibility of escaping himself. The thirty pieces of silver represent the surrender of his dignity and conscience in exchange for something insignificant.
Surrounded by dark forms and ghostly figures, Judas embodies the conflict between lucidity, remorse and despair. The work invites us to look beyond betrayal and contemplate human frailty and the anguish of someone unable to come to terms with his own actions.
