This sculpture offers two visual readings. On one side, an upright owl with piercing eyes evokes wisdom and watchfulness. On the reverse, the bird becomes a stylised female figure whose organic forms suggest restrained sensuality and a totemic feminine presence.
The work explores symbolic transformation: the owl’s wisdom gives way to intuition and the mystery associated with the feminine. Its tall, refined lines lend the sculpture a monolithic quality, while the polished bronze adds depth and contrast to both sides.
This is one of Vicente de Espona’s most conceptual works, bringing together mythology, symbolism and the human figure. Its sculptural treatment reveals his understanding of form and its power to communicate.
