This sculpture depicts a rooster through ascending, stylised lines, reducing its features to essential geometric forms. Its triangular structure and large central opening create a strong upward movement that suggests firmness, alertness and authority.
Defined planes take the place of anatomical detail. The relationship between solid form and open space makes the figure appear lighter while preserving its presence and stability.
A traditional symbol of vigilance and dignity, the rooster takes on an almost totemic character in this work. Its raised body, simplified head and balance between outer surfaces and inner space heighten its expressive force.
The sculpture is representative of Vicente de Espona’s mature period, when his style moved closer to abstraction while retaining recognisable figures and symbolic power.
