This sculpture captures a bull at the moment of a charge. Its bold, simplified body thrusts forward in a gesture of strength and defiance. Taut, compact lines convey the animal’s pent-up energy, while its geometric form gives the small sculpture a monumental presence.
The dark, polished bronze heightens the drama of the figure, evoking the bull’s traditional associations with power, endurance and sacrifice.
Toro I is part of a sculptural series devoted to the bull, with each piece expressing a different stance. Here, the charge suggests action, direct confrontation and instinctive vitality. The work has been exhibited on several occasions in Spain and abroad and is among the most representative examples of Espona’s stylised, symbolic sculpture.
