In this work, the artist deliberately forgoes individual identities, dissolving recognisable figures into the painting’s texture. The composition unfolds through a rhythm of forms and colours that guides the viewer’s subconscious, multiplying the image into a crowd of barely defined figures, like dreamlike patches of colour.
Although indistinct, these figures emerge vividly through sustained observation, allowing the subject—a biblical crowd—to become clear within the apparent chaos. Each viewing may yield a different interpretation, shaped by the viewer’s mood and imagination.
One figure in yellow stands out: a visionary presence, somewhat more clearly defined than the others, emerging as a poet or guide within the collective.
Here, the artist draws on the principles of colour psychology to convey not only the impression of a crowd but also an atmosphere of shared hallucination—a visual phenomenon that reaches beyond reason into the realm of the subconscious and the symbolic.
